UNORFADOX

Bromley, London

The above 4-Track Demo Tape was sent into the "Bridge House" in Canning Town, London in the late 70s to see if they could secure a few gigs there.

Brian Jardine - Vocals Pete Heyward  - Guitar
Ray Amos  - Bass Andy Elphic - Drums

Obscure UK Punk band from outta Bromley in Kent. Sadly the band didn't release anything but they did venture into the studio and recorded some demos. The above tape featured 'Disappear', At The Roxy', 'Hard On My Heels' & 'I'm A Loner'.

Even though all four tracks are bloody good, the one that stands out is "At The Roxy". Some of the lyrics are below.

"I'VE GOT MY ODOUR COLOGNE, I'M GONNA GET STONED AT THE ROXY

COS I'M LOOKING REALLY HIP WITH A SAFETY PIN IN MY LIP AT THE ROXY

WELL, I'LL SHOW ALL THOSE DUDES I'M COOLER THAN THEM

I'M JUST OUTRAGEOUS I'LL PUT THEM TO SHAME

THE BAND WERE A FLOP BUT I LIKE IGGY POP AT THE ROXY

ALL THE DRUGS THAT YOU EVER WANT TO SCORE AT THE ROXY

WELL YOU TRY TO ACT TOUGH BUT IT AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH AT THE ROXY

WELL, I'LL SHOW ALL THOSE DUDES I'M COOLER THAN THEM

I'M JUST OUTRAGEOUS I'LL PUT THEM TO SHAME

SINCE WE'VE FORGOTTEN, LITTLE JOHNNY ROTTEN AT THE ROXY

AT THE ROXY, AT THE ROXY"

ETC ETC

The interesting thing about this band is that the singer 'Brian Jardine' came from a musical background as his brother was a 60s Pop star and went by the name of 'Mark Wynter' who had several top twenty hits including 'Venus In Blue Jeans'. The Guitarist 'Pete Heyward' had a younger brother called 'Nick Heyward' who would eventually form 'Haircut 100' in 1980 and would go on to have regular chart success.

The band played for a couple of years before splitting up that included the 'Roxy Club' on Wednesday 28th December 1977 & 'The Freemasons Tavern', Penge on Saturday 14th January 1978.

Brian Jardine would re-surface in the Powerpop band 'The Telegents' who went onto release two great singles.
