The Story Behind The Acetates...

Question asked by Dizzy

Were the band ever given copies of proposed releases on acetate?

Answered by Riff Regan

Yes the band members were always given white label acetates of records to be released so we could go home and play them and report if anything was not right.  The most rare of these is SWINGING LONDON which at one stage was slated in to be a single but MCA changed their mind a few weeks before release.  I no longer have a copy of this acetate (or any acetate for that matter) but can remember it well because a verse had been removed from the song to get it down to a suitable radio play format of 3 minutes or so and there was a nasty noticeable edit where the cut had been made!!!!  Which was unusual for our producer Simon Napier-Bell because he used to cut the recording tape himself and usually got it right every time!
