Hello There….just as a postscript to your research regarding the band F-X….we are the band FX.. NOT to be confused with F-X!…..our phone number was 0181 994 1432 (my mums house)….

We were a four piece band with two female vocals…..the adverts for the 101 Club and the Kensington were our gigs and the long list of gigs including the Trafalgar, Starlight, Clarendon, etc, etc also coincides with our gig sheet at the time…

As you can see the name is still alive and well in the entertainments industry through the 25 year old sound company I run with my brother Dave Beck (guitar)

  All the best…

 Alan (drums)

(And yes we did support the Meteors….an interesting time was had by all!)

Hi,

I'm the sister of Clive Todd who used to played with the band F-X from Worthing.
Sadly Clive died in 1981, aged 24, so it was such a surprise to find the promotional poster featuring
him thirty years on. And he got a mention, so thank you for that.
I'm happy to hear that Jon is well, I remember him, although I was quite a young teenager back
then  Rick was also a great friend of Clive's and I know that he died some while ago, in fact Rick
and his wife came over the night we found out Clive had died.
I know that Clive loved his music, it was probably the second love of his life
(after the girl that got away) He played by ear, could play anything, that's when he wasn't
too inebriated (or other) he had a great time with Rick, Jon and Co.

Was Mack the same Mack with the missing front tooth? (Clive often brought folk home to stay,
they'd sit up jamming the night away)

Just had to write as the pictured moved me more than words can say.

If you can pass on my best to Jon and his family.

I'm sorry I don't have any other photos of F-X, in fact we didn't even have the poster, Clive had one of course but Clive died in 1981 and at that time he wasn't living at home, so we had virtually nothing to remember him by, just family photos, which are of course with Mum, all we had of Clive's was his AJS motorbike, which was sold to help with burial costs. We do have copy of the record, but it will never be sold, as it's priceless to us, for that period of his life he was happy. He was a character and always up to something, be it naked at Stonehenge Festivals or stranded at the Falls Road Belfast. It will be a lovely final remembrance to both Rick and Clive.

Rick had a wife and twin boys, there may be more photos with them ?

If they'd have had the right promotional agent I'm sure they would have gone a lot further, so much talent !

Thank you so much for your time and for remembering Clive.

 Best of everything

I've just remembered something that will probably add value on to the original vinyl singles.

At that time, for sound effects, you had to hire the BBC sound effects L.P. We used it for pinball noises on ‘slag’, explosions on ‘OBE’ and the ‘national anthem’ which was on there too.  I was in the mixing room with the engineer in ‘Chestnut’ and as he was rewinding I heard a man saying ‘there off and that’s the national anthem’   I said to the engineer put that at the beginning.  He said – it’s nothing because it’s all backwards but I said just put it on anyway, so he did.  So now if you have an original vinyl copy when you wind the record backwards with your finger, at the beginning of OBE national anthem, I can’t remember exactly, but it says something like,  ‘Here is the Cardiff Male Voice Choir’  only works on vinyl – I just did it for a bit of interest to make it different.

Cheers

Hi

Saw you were looking for bands from 70's.  Not sure if you know this website.   http://www.punkbrighton.co.uk/index.html

On this website it talks about bands that played at the Resource Centre in Brighton,  it doesn't mention F-X but we did play there. We went over with Eric and his band the Bats also from Worthing who played after us.  We put a maroon in Rick's bass drum, (a big explosion that calls out the life boat). Mike was off stage with the detonator and when I sang 'blow me up' on OBE, Mike pressed the button and it blew Rick and his drum kit off the back of the podium. All that could be seen was his base ball boots sticking over the bass drum.  Anyone who was there will remember - it was deafening!!

Cheers
